Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik has initiated a fresh organisational push as the party begins preparations for upcoming Panchayat and Urban Local Body elections in Odisha.

During a recent organisational meeting attended by leaders who contested the 2024 Assembly elections, Naveen Patnaik reportedly emphasized strengthening the party structure at the grassroots level and reconnecting with voters across districts.

According to sources familiar with the discussions, the BJD chief advised party leaders to actively remind people about the achievements of the previous BJD government while simultaneously highlighting issues affecting citizens under the current administration.

The meeting is also significant because it reflects a renewed focus on organisational rebuilding after the party’s defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections. Several leaders reportedly shared feedback from their respective districts, while first-time candidates were given greater opportunities to express their views and suggestions.

Sources indicate that Naveen Patnaik may personally undertake district-level reviews in the coming months. The objective is said to be strengthening coordination between local leaders, addressing organisational challenges and improving communication between the party leadership and grassroots workers.

A major focus of the discussion reportedly revolved around expanding the party’s digital outreach capabilities. Leaders were encouraged to become more active in digital communication and respond more effectively to political narratives emerging on social media platforms.

Party insiders also suggest that BJD is preparing a large-scale public feedback exercise. Under the proposed strategy, party workers at the Panchayat level may engage directly with households to gather information about local issues, governance concerns and public grievances. The collected feedback could help the party identify issues that resonate most strongly with voters.

Political observers view the move as an attempt by BJD to transition from post-election introspection to active political mobilisation. With local body elections gradually approaching, both the ruling BJP and opposition BJD are expected to intensify their grassroots activities across Odisha.

The coming months may therefore become crucial in determining how effectively political parties convert public sentiment into electoral strategy and organisational momentum.

Grassroots feedback campaigns often become important indicators of how political parties assess public sentiment between major elections. Beyond electoral calculations, such exercises can influence issue-based politics, organisational priorities and the broader political narrative that shapes future contests.
