Bhubaneswar: “If Congress comes to power, the job thieves will go to jail.” This was the fiery message from the Odisha Youth Congress during a massive protest against the multi-crore Police SI recruitment scam that has rocked the state.
The protest, held under the banner of “Betrayal Protest Rally,” saw participation from top Youth Congress leaders, including National Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib, Odisha Youth Congress in-charge Mahesh Deshmukh, and State President Ranjit Patra. The leaders launched a direct attack on the Mohan Majhi government, accusing it of shielding the culprits behind the ₹300 crore recruitment scam.
According to the Youth Congress, while innocent aspirants who paid up to ₹25 lakh for the promised police jobs are behind bars, the real masterminds of the scam are roaming free. Names such as Shankar Prusty and Muna Mohanty, allegedly key players in the recruitment syndicate, are yet to be arrested.
The opposition further alleged that even the Chief Minister’s office has links to the scam, a charge that has triggered intense political debate across Odisha. Despite the magnitude of the scandal, the government’s Crime Branch has made little visible progress, leading critics to accuse the administration of deliberate inaction.
Mohan Majhi had once declared that his government would catch criminals “even if they hide underground.” But with this scandal unfolding, that promise seems hollow. The Youth Congress has vowed to take the issue to every corner of Odisha, demanding justice for cheated aspirants and accountability from those in power.
This growing outrage over the recruitment scam has placed the Mohan Majhi government in an increasingly defensive position, with the opposition uniting to portray it as a regime steeped in corruption and cover-ups.
