The political atmosphere in Odisha has suddenly become heated. The Congress has moved a no-confidence motion against the Mohan Majhi government in the State Assembly. The big question is: Will the BJD support this motion or not?
According to reports from BJD legislators themselves, the party has not yet taken a final decision. After returning from Naveen Nivas today, several BJD MLAs revealed a surprising detail. They said, “We went to Naveen Nivas, but Naveen Babu was not there. He is in Delhi. Aditya Mahapatra told us that VK Pandian Sir has spoken to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the phone. Modi Ji has clearly said that the Congress no-confidence motion should not be supported by the BJD.”
This revelation has created a storm. If true, it directly shows that the BJD’s political stand is being shaped not by Naveen Patnaik inside Odisha, but by conversations in Delhi.
On one side, the Congress has taken the risk of moving a no-confidence motion despite lacking the numbers. Many believe this is just a media stunt by Congress to grab attention. As BJP MLA Jay Narayan Mishra pointed out, “Without numbers, a no-confidence motion is meaningless. This is just a gimmick to remain in the headlines.”
On the other side, the BJD finds itself in a dilemma. Senior leaders like Dr Arun Sahoo and Ranendra Pratap Swain are under pressure. Should they follow Pandian’s Delhi line and stay away from supporting the motion? Or should they act as a strong opposition party inside Odisha and challenge the government on the floor of the House?
The uncertainty has left many questions unanswered. Is BJD acting independently, or is it caught in Delhi’s pressure politics? Is VK Pandian now playing the role that Naveen Patnaik once commanded with authority?
This no-confidence motion, regardless of the numbers, has already exposed the shifting power balance in Odisha politics.
