Bhubaneswar: A political controversy has erupted in Odisha after a BJP legislator Naveen Jain from Titlagarh allegedly fired a gun in public during a Ram Navami procession. The incident, which quickly gained attention across the state, has triggered sharp reactions from opposition parties and raised concerns over law and order.
According to reports, the MLA was seen taking a firearm from his personal security officer and firing shots in the air in full public view. The visuals from the event have since circulated widely, prompting criticism from various quarters.
The Biju Janata Dal has strongly condemned the act, calling it a serious violation of law by an elected representative. Senior leaders, including Tukuni Sahu and Lenin Mohanty, questioned the state government’s handling of such incidents and demanded immediate action.
They argued that such behaviour reflects a breakdown of administrative discipline and accused the ruling party of allowing a culture of impunity. The opposition has also pointed to past allegations involving the MLA, suggesting a pattern of controversial conduct.
Meanwhile, the incident has also brought focus on broader concerns regarding governance and enforcement of law in the state. Critics have alleged that several instances involving public representatives have gone unchecked.
The state government is yet to respond in detail, but the issue has already intensified political tensions. With the opposition indicating possible protests, the coming days are likely to witness further escalation in the political discourse.
