New Delhi/Bhubaneswar | July 17 — In a move aimed at creating a climate-conscious generation, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav met in New Delhi to discuss the integration of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) into the national school curriculum.
The high-level meeting was attended by senior officials from both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for making sustainability a mass movement starting from the school level.
“If Mission LiFE becomes part of school education, it can connect over 14.7 lakh schools and impact more than 30 crore students across the country,” said Pradhan.
He further added that India’s National Education Policy already prioritises environmental education and that Mission LiFE would deepen this focus. Pradhan suggested that District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) should be involved to drive this mission at the grassroots level.
The proposal includes the use of digital tools, gamification methods, and the development of teacher handbooks to incorporate climate-related content effectively. Both ministries will work in coordination to design content, training modules, and awareness programs aligned with the goals of Mission LiFE.
“Together, we must work to build a generation that is deeply conscious of their responsibility towards the environment,” Pradhan said.
