Bhubaneswar: The resignation of Rajya Sabha MP Debashish Samantaray from the Biju Janata Dal has triggered fresh political discussions in Odisha and intensified debate over the party’s internal dynamics.
A three-time MLA and senior political figure, Debashish Samantaray’s decision to leave the party is being viewed as another significant development for the BJD at a time when the organisation is already facing several internal and external political challenges.
Political circles are now discussing whether the party leadership may initiate disciplinary or political action against him in the coming days. The development has also fuelled wider conversations around loyalty, leadership and the changing political landscape inside the regional party.
Supporters of the BJD argue that party discipline and organisational stability remain the top priority, while critics claim that the resignation reflects growing dissatisfaction among certain sections of leaders within the party.
The issue has also generated emotional political reactions on social media, with many supporters debating whether the separation reflects a breakdown in political trust between senior leaders and the party leadership led by Naveen Patnaik.
Political analysts believe the resignation carries symbolic importance because Debashish Samantaray has long been considered one of the recognisable political faces associated with Odisha politics.
As Odisha’s political environment continues to evolve after the 2024 elections, developments inside the BJD are likely to remain under close political observation in the coming months.
