In a major national controversy over the “Operation Sindoor” debate in Parliament, four BJD Rajya Sabha MPs—Sasmit Patra, Sulata Deo, Manas Mangaraj, and Subashish Khuntia—have once again supported the BJP-led central government without any protest. This comes despite growing concerns about women’s dignity and political symbolism linked to the sindoor (vermilion) gesture.
Interestingly, it has now been revealed that these BJD MPs were acting on the “talking points” provided by VK Pandian, the close advisor of BJD chief Naveen Patnaik. These notes clearly instructed them to:
- Avoid any reference to “under the leadership of the Government of India”
- Highlight the strength of Indian institutions like the Armed Forces instead of praising political leaders
- Stick to the party’s line and do not go beyond the approved message
Despite the massive public outcry and sharp criticisms from opposition parties, no BJD MP raised any objection to the controversial narrative. This is not the first time BJD’s silence has raised eyebrows.
Earlier, during the debate on the Waqf Bill, BJD had backed the BJP government and faced backlash from various corners. This latest move has again triggered speculation that a silent political deal exists between Naveen Patnaik’s BJD and the BJP.
Political observers believe that BJD’s so-called neutrality is gradually shifting towards quiet support for BJP’s agenda, without taking any public stance or voicing any dissent in Parliament.
As public anger grows, questions are being raised:
- Is BJD compromising Odisha’s voice for political safety?
- Why are its MPs silent on sensitive national issues?
- Is VK Pandian controlling BJD’s stand more than ever before?
The people of Odisha and India deserve clarity and transparency. Silence on such symbolic and emotional matters like sindoor isn’t just political—it’s personal, cultural, and sensitive.
The question is simple:
When will BJD stop playing both sides and take a firm stand—either with the people or with the power?
