Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of the Biju Janata Dal’s Foundation Day, party president and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik extended greetings to party workers and the people of Odisha, while also delivering a sharp political message about the present situation in the state.

While conveying his wishes, Naveen Patnaik strongly targeted the BJP-led government in Odisha. He said that the Biju Janata Dal has always worked in the ideals of Biju Patnaik and remained committed to serving the people of the state. According to him, service, self-respect and struggle are the core principles of the party, and development has been its true identity.

Naveen Patnaik described the period from 2000 to 2024 as the “golden period” in Odisha’s development history. He claimed that during this time, Odisha received a new identity at the national level. Women were empowered and made self-reliant, farmers’ incomes were increased, and healthcare services such as the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana were strengthened. He also highlighted that the state’s economy became stronger, major investments were attracted, and employment opportunities were created for the youth.

At the same time, Naveen Patnaik criticised the current ‘double-engine’ government in the state. He questioned the claim of development and said that despite 18 months of governance, there is no visible progress. According to him, farmers are not getting proper benefits, and mandis are not opening on time. Women are facing difficulties, and the youth are feeling disappointed. He also raised concerns over the law and order situation, stating that crimes against women are increasing, and even minor girls are not safe in the state.

Naveen Patnaik further alleged that some people are spreading misinformation about the Biju Janata Dal and claiming that the party will break apart. Rejecting such claims, he said the BJD is strong and united. He asserted that the party is not only intact but will continue to stand with the people for the next 100 years.

His statement has once again triggered political discussions in Odisha, especially regarding the future leadership and direction of the Biju Janata Dal. The Foundation Day message clearly indicates that the party intends to remain politically relevant and continue its engagement with the people of the state.
