Bhubaneswar: A major political stir has emerged over the recent salary hike for Odisha legislators. Following a key meeting of BJP legislators in Delhi, senior leaders met Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, demanding a review of the salary hike decision. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling has confirmed that BJP legislators have requested the CM to reconsider the hike, citing public sentiment and concerns over sudden decisions.

Sources indicate that Amit Shah and BL Santosh had reportedly advised CM Majhi from Delhi regarding the matter. Subsequently, Odisha legislators held a meeting and decided to request a review of the hike before implementing any changes.

It is noteworthy that during the Winter Session of the Assembly on December 9, the salary and allowances of legislators were unanimously approved. The total remuneration was increased from ₹1 lakh to ₹3.45 lakh – effectively tripling the existing salary. Pension amounts for former legislators were also increased.

This salary hike has sparked public debate and criticism. Opposition leaders and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik have stated that they will not accept the hike, sending formal letters to the CM expressing their dissent. As the political situation unfolds, the public and media are closely watching whether the state government will reconsider its decision in response to these demands.
