Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s political landscape is once again in flux after Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan was entrusted with the major responsibility of overseeing the Bihar Assembly Elections as the BJP’s election in-charge. The appointment has created a ripple effect in Odisha’s political circles, sparking discussions and speculation about a possible shift in state leadership.
According to political observers, if the BJP successfully regains power in Bihar with Dharmendra Pradhan at the helm of strategy, it may pave the way for his return to Odisha politics with an even stronger mandate. Party insiders suggest that the BJP’s central leadership may hand over the responsibility of Odisha once again to Pradhan, given his proven track record and organisational acumen.
This speculation has reportedly caused unease in Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s camp. Analysts argue that Mohan Majhi’s chair may already be shaking, as the Congress has also moved a no-confidence motion against his government in Odisha. At the same time, Dharmendra Pradhan’s growing stature in national politics, coupled with his experience in handling critical state units for the BJP, makes him a natural contender to take charge of Odisha’s political course.
Bihar holds strategic importance for the BJP, being a key political state where alliance management with partners like the JD(U) will be crucial. Dharmendra Pradhan’s ability to manage coalitions and his organisational expertise could not only deliver results in Bihar but also reposition him as a central figure in Odisha politics.
If this scenario plays out, Odisha may once again witness a power realignment within the BJP, with Mohan Majhi’s leadership being tested against the return of a heavyweight leader like Dharmendra Pradhan.
The coming months, therefore, will not only decide the future of Bihar’s political trajectory but may also mark the beginning of a countdown for Mohan Majhi’s leadership in Odisha.
