After 1.5 Years Naveen as CM Again? Will Mohan Majhi Step Down After 2.5 Years?

power-sharing arrangement between the BJP and the BJD

Odisha’s political circles are buzzing with speculation about a possible power-sharing understanding between the BJP and the BJD. The debate has gained momentum after senior BJD leaders started openly questioning the party’s silence on major national issues.

Since the BJP came to power in Odisha, controversies like the vote tampering allegations, Operation Sindoor debate, the Waqf Bill controversy, and the lack of a clear opposition stance against the central BJP leadership have raised many questions. Political insiders now claim that these developments are not random but part of a larger arrangement.

The Rumoured Power-Sharing Formula

According to political gossip, a secret understanding may have been reached between BJD’s top leadership (Naveen Patnaik and VK Pandian) and the BJP’s central leadership. As per this alleged formula:

  • For the first 2.5 years, BJP’s Mohan Majhi will continue as the Chief Minister of Odisha.
  • For the remaining 2.5 years, Naveen Patnaik will return as Chief Minister.

This possibility has triggered heated debates in political circles and among the people of Odisha. While there is no official confirmation, the silence of both parties on sensitive issues is being read as a signal of deeper coordination.

Why Are Senior Leaders Speaking Out?

Some senior BJD leaders have begun voicing dissatisfaction, arguing that remaining soft on the BJP is damaging the party’s credibility as a strong regional force. At the same time, BJP leaders too have avoided sharp criticism of Naveen Patnaik, further fueling speculation of a behind-the-scenes deal.

What Does This Mean for Odisha Politics?

If such a power-sharing plan truly exists, it would mark a turning point in Odisha politics, showing how alliances can reshape leadership without elections. However, it also raises serious questions about transparency, the people’s mandate, and whether voters are being kept in the dark about pre-decided arrangements.

For now, Odisha waits and watches: Will Mohan Majhi complete a full five-year term as CM, or will Naveen Patnaik return to power after 2.5 years?

The answers may come not from official announcements, but from how both BJP and BJD continue to act — or remain silent — on the burning issues of the state.
