Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday said that institutions like IIT Palakkad will be key drivers of India’s development journey in the 21st century. Speaking at the 7th convocation ceremony of IIT Palakkad in Kerala, the Minister congratulated graduating students and urged them to contribute actively towards the vision of a developed India by 2047.
“IIT students are not only intelligent but also have a unique set of qualities that go beyond academics. India has immense faith in their ability to lead and innovate,” Shri Pradhan said, while addressing students who received degrees and medals at the convocation.
He highlighted that IIT Palakkad, despite being less than a decade old, has already established itself as a dynamic hub of academic excellence, research, innovation and entrepreneurship. “It is heartening to see how new-age institutions like this are helping power India’s growth story,” he added.
Shri Pradhan underlined that the country stands at a crucial moment in its development journey and must move forward with determination. “To achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047, we need to build world-class infrastructure, become self-reliant in technology and innovation, and lead globally in clean energy and climate action. Upgrading our agriculture and expanding inclusive digital public infrastructure are also key goals,” he stated.
He expressed confidence that the government, along with institutions like IITs, will take the lead in realising national priorities.
Drawing inspiration from the 14th-century mathematician and astronomer Madhava, the Minister encouraged IIT students to follow in his footsteps and push the frontiers of knowledge. “As inheritors of the IIT legacy, students should create and lead new paths in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship,” he noted.
Shri Pradhan concluded by emphasising the need for a forward-looking approach to education that aligns with India’s long-term goals, adding that students from institutions like IIT Palakkad will play a pivotal role in writing India’s growth story for decades to come.
